Access to the Digital Image and Slide Collection (DISC) is open to all Fine Arts faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, for the purpose of borrowing slides to illustrate lectures and presentations in classrooms on campus or to use slides for research and study purposes. We also meet faculty needs for digital images, and provide technical assistance on image-related questions.

DISC holds 300,000 circulating slides ranging in subject from pre-historic cave paintings right up to the most contemporary images, focusing on the twentieth century, with 80,000 slides in this category. Also included are slides of manuscripts, photographs, fibre works, decorative arts and design. A database of 140,000 slides is accessible online.

DISC also houses the documentation centre of the Canadian Women Artists History Initiative, open for consultation during DISC opening hours.

DISC services for students include:

  • A scanning station set up for use by both graduate and undergraduate students. We would be happy to help you to scan what you need for presentations or to illustrate papers.
  • Access to FADIS, a consortium of Canadian universities working together to create a digital library. Drop by for a demonstration of how FADIS might be of use to you, or send us an email to learn when FADIS workshops are taking place.
  • Technical Assistance: Need help with scanning, Photoshop, or Powerpoint? We’d be happy to assist. Drop in and ask for advice about these or any other image-related questions.

DISC services for faculty include:

  • Digitization: We can scan our own slides, scan your slides or scan from books to provide images to faculty for classroom use. Drop by and let us know your digital needs.
  • Access to FADIS: Drop by for a demonstration of how FADIS might be of use to you, or send us an email to learn when FADIS workshops are taking place.
  • Technical Assistance: We are always available to help with scanning, Photoshop, or Powerpoint. Drop in and ask for advice about these or any other image- related questions.
