Event description:You know what love is? - J DILLA
Come celebrate the last decade of Montreal hip-hop with some of its members, in a discussion about who we were, where we're at and what hop hop is.
The
Hip Hop: Past/ Present/Future class, a Fine Arts course for non-Fine Arts students taught by Yassin Alsalman (The Narcicyst) and Marc Peters, has organized a conference with local montreal MCs, DJs, producers, promoters and hip hop community members to discuss the issues plaguing the city of Montreal, the recent losses of important figures in the scene, and the rebirth of a community that lacks visibility outside of the country.
How do you harness the creative energy of a diverse community in struggle? Where do the MCs that speak of our stories live and how are they growing/stagnating in Montreal? How do we pay homage to our departed? How do we produce as a scene, individually and artistically? Is our content helping us move forward or holding us back?
This three-hour session is open to the public and we invite the entire hip hop community to join us. This is a free event and is open to ideas, thoughts and all around conversation. We urge people to join us to help us captivate the energy that is Montreal, creatively, intelligently, respectfully and in unity.
This discussion will be recorded, and placed in the Concordia library as the first audio and visual documentation of Montreal's hip hop scene as a tool of research and a time capsule of the scene.Related links:
