The Department of Art History is widely recognized as a national leader in art history study and research.  We are proud of our transcultural, interdisciplinary approach and longstanding commitment to Canadian art.

The undergraduate programs focus on the study of art objects within their historical, cultural, political, social and economic contexts, ensuring that students are familiar with the leading debates that take place within the discipline.

Our dynamic curriculum reflects the diversity of our faculty members’ research specializations, such as the intersection of art history and feminist studies, the exploration of works by contemporary First Nations artists, the examination of the multifaceted history of fibre arts, and the study of photography within a Canadian context
